Girl Scouts 101

The Basics!!

Girl Scouts is an international organization dedicated solely to girls.
In partnership with committed adults, girls build character and skills for success in the real world.
In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship, and the power of girls together.
No matter what a girls' age, there is a program designed to meet her interests.

Daisy Girl Scouts
5 to 6 year olds
Brownie Girl Scouts
6 to 8 years old
Junior Girl Scouts
8 to 11 years old
Teen Girl Scouts
11 to 17 years old
Juliettes
5 to 17 years old who register independently outside of a troop setting.

Troops...
Girls are organized into troops based on age level and interests. Adult volunteers serve as leaders or advisors to the troops. Younger girl troops typically meet weekly or bi-weekly in local schools, churches, or community centers. In addition to meetings, the girls participate in Council sponsored events and troop activities designed to build character and skills. Teaching girls to give back to the community is an integral part of the program in which girls participate in a variety of community service activities.

Cost To Participate
Membership Registration
An annual fee of $10 goes directly to GSUSA for activity insurance, research and development of national programs, safety standards, and training
Troop Dues
Dues are set by the troop and are usually collected weekly or monthly
Activity Fees
Generally most troops have more than enough money to operate for the year following the annual Girl Scout cookie program which generates revenue for both the Council and the local troops.
Troop Sponsorships
Many troops receive financial assistance from a local business which has agreed to become a troop sponsor. In addition to financial donations, sponsors may also provide free supplies and/or services that may benefit the troop.
Financial Assistance
Girl Scouting is open to every girl everywhere. Financial assistance is available for membership registration and event registration fees. No girl will be turned down due to financial circumstances.

Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be
      Honest and fair,
      Friendly and helpful,
      Considerate and caring,
      Courageous and strong,
Responsible for what I say and do
And to
      Respect myself and others,
      Respect authority,
      Use resources wisely,
Make the world a better place,
And be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Girl Scout Promise
On my honor I will try;
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
